Vacuum brazing of titanium alloy with sapphire glass
Normantherm•7/8/2026
Vacuum brazing of titanium alloy with sapphire glass is an advanced ceramic-to-metal joining technology used in aerospace, semiconductor, medical, optical, and high-vacuum applications. This process combines the exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight properties of titanium alloy with the outstanding hardness, optical transparency, and thermal stability of sapphire glass to create durable, hermetically sealed assemblies.
The product shown above features a precision titanium alloy flange vacuum brazed to a sapphire glass window. During the brazing process, an active brazing alloy is used to join the two dissimilar materials inside a high-vacuum brazing furnace. The oxygen-free environment prevents oxidation and contamination while promoting excellent wetting of the sapphire surface, resulting in a clean, high-strength, and leak-tight metallurgical bond.
Compared with conventional joining methods, vacuum brazing provides superior joint reliability, excellent dimensional accuracy, minimal thermal distortion, and outstanding vacuum integrity. The process also produces clean, flux-free joints that meet the stringent cleanliness requirements of high-tech industries.
Vacuum-brazed titanium alloy and sapphire glass assemblies are widely used in vacuum viewports, optical windows, semiconductor processing equipment, scientific instruments, and aerospace systems where high strength, thermal stability, and long-term sealing performance are essential.
