304 Stainless Steel Heat Treatment: The Demagnetization Process

304 Stainless Steel is the gold standard for corrosion resistance, which is why it is found everywhere from medical devices to precision electronic housings. However, there is a hidden issue that often arises during manufacturing: unwanted magnetism.

While 304 is typically non-magnetic in its annealed state, cold working—like machining, bending or forming can alter its microstructure. This creates ferrite, which introduces residual magnetism. For sensitive applications like MRI components or surgical tools, this magnetism can be a critical flaw.

Restoring the Non-Magnetic State

Our vacuum heat treatment demagnetization process is designed to reverse these effects. By carefully applying a specific thermal cycle in a vacuum environment, we realign the material's microstructure. This effectively eliminates the residual magnetism and restores the stainless steel to its true, non-magnetic state.

Integrity Preserved

Unlike simple external degaussing, which only addresses surface magnetism temporarily, our heat treatment provides a permanent solution. It treats the entire volume of the part without compromising the material's excellent corrosion resistance or structural stability.

The result? Components that are magnetically clean, structurally sound and ready for the most sensitive electronic and medical environments.
